Fourth research seminar of the ITRC held in Hvanneyri

On November 6th-7th the Icelandic Tourism Research Centre hosted this semester‘s research seminar at the Agricultural University of Iceland in Hvanneyri, South West Iceland. At the fourth research seminar the ITRC staff, the ITRC projects associated staff and Ph.D. students connected to the ITRC were invited.

At this research seminar the ITRC staff and the ITRC projects associated staff were presenting their research projects. Six projects were presented at the research seminar, each project got 30 minutes to present followed by one hour devoted to discussions, questions, comments and feedback. Rögnvaldur Ólafsson and Gyða Þorvaldsdóttir
Rögnvaldur presented the first half of the presentation describing how traffic counter devices are being used to count the number of visitors on nature destinations.

In the second half of the presentation Gyða focused on the data collection methods of the project ”Carrying capacity and the number of tourists in eight nature destinations in South and West Iceland” which Rögnvaldur, Gyða and Anna Dóra Sæþórsdóttir are currently working on.

- Performing Place Identity through Narratives of a Music Event

The next research seminar will be held early summer 2015, location to be announced.

Cristi had the last words the first day of the research seminar in autumn 2014, participants got a status update on his research project about the ”The Economic Benefits of Tourism in Iceland: Boosting the Icelandic TSA Development”.

After a hard day’s work the participants visited the local based Agricultural Museum of Iceland where project manager Bjarni Guðmundsson guided the group around the museum.
