For the next months, the ITRC is hosting a new intern, Hana Sáblíková, at the Akureyri office. Hana is a Ph.D. candidate in Applied and Landscape Ecology from Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic. During her internship, Hana will research sustainable tourism practices in the private sector of Akureyri.

For the next weeks, the ITRC is hosting a new intern, Rabab Hussein, from the University of Prince Edward Island. Rabab is a master student in Island studies and will focus on Grímsey during her internship.

From February to May 2022, the ITRC will host Julie Madsen during the time of writing her master’s thesis. Julie is a master’s student at Aalborg University, Denmark.

One of ITRC tasks is to disseminate information regarding tourism research in Iceland. On ITRC website there is a list of peer-reviewed tourism papers. The newly updated list is available here on the web under „About us“ – „Academic papers on tourism“ and also through link here below.

A new book, Asian Mobilities Consumption in a Changing Arctic, has just been published, both as a hardback and ebook.

Near 200 Nordic tourism and hospitality researchers are now attending the opening of the 29th Nordic Symposium on Tourism Hospitality Research, this year hosted as an e-conference by the ITRC‘s in Akureyri.

Unfortunately, the Covid-19 situation has become worse in Iceland as in many other countries. Due to that fact, the conference committee has decided to transform the conference to an e-conference altogether.

Today, May 20th, a photography exhibition titled The Arctic Biodiversity “Through the Lens” opened at Harpa, Reykjavík. The exhibition centres around the biodiversity of the Arctic and follows photo competitions by the same title from 2014 og 2018.

This spring, the ITRC is hosting a new intern Clay Appell, who is studying at the University of Prince Edward Island.
