Good participation at the 34th Nordic Symposium on Tourism and Hospitality Research
The 34th Nordic Symposium on Tourism and Hospitality Research, organised by the Icelandic Tourism Research Centre, begins tomorrow, 6 October, bringing together around 190 tourism researchers and representatives from the tourism industry from 27 countries.
This year’s symposium explores the role of tourism in a rapidly changing world under the theme Tourism in a Changing World: An Active Agent for Good? The programme features 28 sessions, five workshops and two panel discussions.
Hosted by Perlan, the symposium opens with a reception where Hanna Katrín Friðriksson, Minister of Industries, will be among those delivering opening remarks. On Wednesday morning, the main conference programme moves to Hotel Reykjavík Askja, where Inga Hlín Pálsdóttir, CEO of Visit Reykjavík, will begin by welcoming participants to Reykjavík. The programme continues through Thursday afternoon.
The symposium’s two keynote speakers are Arnar Már Ólafsson, Director General of the Icelandic Tourist Board, and Henna Konu, Professor at the University of Eastern Finland Business School.
Alongside the symposium, a two-day course for doctoral students is being held organised by Tourism studies programme at the University of Iceland. The course began this morning and gives doctoral students an opportunity to develop their research ideas, receive feedback and connect with other researchers in the field of tourism.
The Nordic Symposium on Tourism and Hospitality Research is held annually in the autumn, with the Nordic countries taking turns hosting the event. It is part of the work of the Nordic Society for Tourism and Hospitality Research (NORTHORS), which provides a forum for academic discussion, research exchange and the development of knowledge in tourism across Europe. The Icelandic Tourism Research Centre represents Iceland on the NORTHORS board.
