International Tourism Conference a Success in Reykjavík

The 34th Nordic Symposium on Tourism and Hospitality Research took place in Reykjavík on 6–8 October, bringing together around 190 participants from 27 countries to discuss tourism under the theme Tourism in a Changing World: An Active Agent for Good?

The symposium opened with a wonderful reception hosted by Perlan, where Hanna Katrín Friðriksson, Minister of Industry, welcomed the guests. This was followed by two engaging days at Hotel Reykjavík Askja, featuring 165 presentations across 28 sessions, two panel discussions and five workshops. Keynote speakers Arnar Már Ólafsson, Director General of the Icelandic Tourist Board, and Henna Konu, Professor at the University of Eastern Finland, opened each conference day with talks that inspired discussion and reflection.

The conference dinner at Bryggjuhúsið added a festive note to the event, with lively music from the Vesturbær and Miðbær School Band, followed by a comedy performance by Ari Eldjárn.

The Icelandic Tourism Research Centre would like to thank all participants, speakers, collaborators, sponsors and everyone who helped organise the symposium for their contribution to making the event a success.
