New Intern at ITRC

Originally from Canada, Nica Derakhshan Nia is looking forward to working with ITRC. She completed her bachelor's degree in Environment and Sustainability at the University of British Columbia before pursuing the Erasmus Mundus dual master's programme in Sustainable Development of Islands, split between the University of Groningen and University of Iceland.

Between her studies, she has been involved in grassroots environmental work, from community forest plantings to facilitating sustainability workshops. Her graduate research has recently focused on auroral recreation in Iceland, producing spatial analysis and a technical report examining this emerging area of nature-based tourism.

For ITRC, she will be working on the research project Tourist Routes and Infrastructure: Access, Use and Seasonality.

Nica will be supervised by Ása Marta Sveinsdóttir.

We are happy to have her on board!
