The impact of new drill holes in the Hverahlíð and Meitlar area
This project focused on the possible impact of new drill holes in the Hverahlíð II and Meitlar area on tourism and leisure and was undertaken for Reykjavík Energy.
The main purpose of the project was to map how the area is being used by tourism actors and individuals/groups who use the area for leisure and outdoor recreation. The research data was be based on both the analysis of existing data and the collection of primary data consisting of interviews with relevant stakeholders. Interviewees included, among others, tourism providers who have an interest in the area, representatives from local government or other planning authorities, and individuals or representatives of groups/associations that use the area for outdoor recreation and leisure.
The project started in December 2023 and concluded in March 2024.
Project managers were Vera Vilhjálmsdóttir [verav@rmf.is] and Guðrún Þóra Gunnarsdóttir [gudrunthora@rmf.is], along with Hjalti Jóhannesson, a researcher with the University of Akureyri Research Centre.
