Johannes (Hans) Welling is a new member of the ITRC team, as a project manager and researcher. He will lead a grant application process for the Icelandic Research Fund and applications for other international research projects.

The ITRC is a participant in the Erasmus+ project Tourism Crisis Navigation, which has its goal to design and produce teaching material, in order to strengthen the resilience of the tourism industry in crisis.

Edita Tverijonaitė defended her doctoral thesis in Tourism Studies at the University of Iceland yesterday. Edita is the second doctoral student to graduate from the PhD-program of Tourism Studies from the University of Iceland.

Journal of Arctic Tourism is a new scholarly journal in the field of tourism, published by the Icelandic Tourism Research Centre.

ITRC recently joined a Nordic network aimed at improving tourism education in the Nordics: TourNord.

A virtual kick-off meeting was held today for a new Erasmus+ project, Women Leadership in Tourism, Leisure & Hospitality (We Lead)

Recently, a two-day project meeting was held in Hveragerði, in the Erasmus+ project Tourism Crisis Navigation. The ITRC participates in the project together with partners from Germany, Spain, Ireland, Denmark, Scotland and Ireland.

The Icelandic Coast Guard, the Icelandic Arctic Cooperation Network, and the Icelandic Tourism Research Centre have organised two breakout sessions at the Arctic Circle Assembly 2022 called "Responding to Booming Arctic Cruise: Safety and Environmental Risks at Sea" where key stakeholders will give their views and discuss the main challenges they face and fields of collaboration in this regard.

The ITRC participates in a new thematic network on Northern and Arctic Island Studies research on the development of resilient, dynamic and sustainable Island communities.

Ása Marta Sveinsdóttir, researcher at the ITRC, participated in UNLEASH Innovation Lab which was held in Nuuk from the 20-27th August 2022.
